Author Agreement

This is the publication agreement regarding a written manuscript to be published in the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Journal. The parties to this Agreement are: the corresponding author (on behalf of any other authors) and the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Journal. The corresponding author of the manuscript must attest to having read and agreed with these stipulations in their initial cover letter.

  1. The author(s) have fully read the requirements for publication and have prepared a manuscript in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed., 2020) prior to submission.
  2. The authors(s) will adhere to publishing stipulations provided in the For Authors page related to language, placement of tables and figures, and formatting.
  3. The author(s) agree to pay the required publication fee for the manuscript upon its final acceptance. Your work will not be published until this fee is received. Current fees can be found in the For Authors section.
  4. It is the responsibility of the author(s) to obtain written permission for material (e.g., figures, tables, quotes longer than 200 words) taken directly or adapted from another source. Payment of fees to the copyright holder may be required and is also the responsibility of the author(s). Permission must be obtained prior to publication.
  5. By accepting the Journal’s Offer of Publication, the corresponding author warrants you are signing on behalf of all authors of the manuscript, and that you have the authority to act as their agent for the purpose of entering into this agreement.
  6. Author(s) allow the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Journal to identify itself as the original publisher and agree to an Open Access Licensing Agreement to publish the manuscript. You hereby grant a Creative Commons copyright license in the manuscript to the general public, in particular a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, which is incorporated herein by reference and is further specified at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode (summary available at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0).
  7. The author(s) agree to require that a citation to the original publication of the manuscript in the Journal be included in any attribution statement satisfying the attribution requirement of the Creative Commons license of paragraph 2.
  8. The author(s) retain ownership of all rights under copyright in all versions of the manuscript, and all rights not expressly granted in this agreement.
  9. To the extent that any edits made by the publisher to make the manuscript suitable for publication in the journal amount to copyrightable works of authorship, the publisher hereby assigns all right, title, and interest in such edits to you. The publisher agrees to verify with you any such edits that are substantive. You agree that the license of paragraph 2 covers such edits.
  10. After the manuscript is accepted, a set of PDF page proofs will be available. The proof should be used to check for omissions or any typesetting and editing errors. Significant changes by the authors at this stage will require permission from the Editors. The proof must be returned with needed corrections within 72 hours. Subsequent corrections after this period cannot be guaranteed. Please note that RCEJ may proceed with publication if no response is received after the 72-hour period.
  11. The author(s) further warrant that: (a) the manuscript is original, has not been formally published in any other peer-reviewed journal or in a book or edited collection, and is not under consideration for any such publication; (b) you are the sole author(s) of the manuscript, and that you have a complete and unencumbered right to make the grants you make; and (c) the manuscript does not libel anyone, invade anyone’s copyright, or otherwise violate any statutory or common law right of anyone, and that you have made all reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of any factual information contained in the manuscript. Further, you agree to indemnify the publisher against any claim or action alleging facts which, if true, constitute a breach of any of the foregoing warranties or other provisions of this agreement, as well as against any related damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses incurred by the publisher.
  12. This is the entire agreement between you and the publisher, and it may be modified only in writing. It will bind and benefit our respective assigns and successors in interest, including your heirs. It will terminate if the publisher does not publish, in any medium, the manuscript within one year of the date of your attestation.
